How You Can Help CSOC Help Nicaragua!

If you’ve ever sipped The Corp’s rich and flavorful coffee, then you know what it feels like to be momentarily whisked away to the fertile forests of the República de Nicaragua. This Spring Break, however, fifteen of The Corp’s student employees (and yours truly) will travel there in the flesh to build a playground, explore the countryside, and marginally improve what little Spanish we learned in middle school. We’ve decided there’s no better place for us to spend our week in our never-ending goal to be “Students Serving Students.” For who, I ask you, are we meant to serve on Friday, when all Georgetown students have left? With this conundrum in mind, we decided to take it on ourselves (well, with the assistance, perhaps, of the Fabretto Children’s Foundation, Mayorga Coffee, and even a parent or two – thanks, Mom) to try to serve a different type of student in the coming week.

Who might this student be?

Instead of telling you, we’d like to show you.  We hereby invite you to attend a screening of Dreaming Nicaragua, a collaboration between the Fabretto Foundaiton and Filmmaker Marcelo Burkin that takes a poignant look at the lives of four children living in poverty in Nicaragua. Tickets to the screening will cost you a mere $5, and the proceeds from our sales (together with the many cool items we will be giving away) will help us to purchase materials for the play structure we’ll build, therefore helping us to maximize our impact in the lives of several young Nicaraguans. Your purchase will certainly help us to enrich the lives of these Nicaraguan children, but watching the movie may also help you to learn about the many problems facing the poor and disadvantaged in that part of the world, and to consider how together we might go about developing solutions. Indeed, the world requires no less of those that seek to change it for the better.

The screening will be held in ICC 107 at 6:30 PM tonight, with tickets sold at the door!
